About Us

Ambassador's Welcome

An independent Republic Since 1943, Lebanon is located at the meeting point of the three continents (Asia, Africa and Europe). Over the centuries, Lebanon has been at the crossroad of many civilizations whose traces may still be seen today.

The Phoenicians who lived in this land ( 1200BC) were the first pioneers to venture in the seas. They exchanged science with nations, spread the alphabet from Byblos with Cadmus, geometry from Tyre with Pythagoras. As good merchants they introduced the market system of bargain trade. A few millenniums later, Lebanese reinitiated the same process of migration.

Nowadays, millions of Lebanese descendants are established aboard, most of them are successful scientist, prosperous business people, influential politicians,  creative artists and poets, excellent doctors, etc, most importantly good citizens.

The 1975-1990 events in Lebanon are being rapidly overcome by the country's will to rebuild and develop. Democratic life has returned. Parliament is the only authority to sanction the government along with a free press.

The TAIF accord (1989) has provided the Lebanese society with the appropriate mechanism to resolve its problems and rebuild itself as an integrated entry. It reaffirmed the democratic principles, and that the source of power must be exercised through the constitutional institutions.

Given its location on the Mediterranean shore, coupled with the advantages of its political, cultural and legal systems, Lebanon is ideally situated for trade, investment and tourism. It has traditionally shared very friendly ties with Australia.

The current website handles not only the kind of information on the services that an Embassy and its Consulates-General and Honorary Consulate could provide but also about the Australian-Lebanese Community, inter-community affairs, Lebanon, and the cordial relations between Lebanon and Australia.
