Our
Homepage representing a photograph of the Lebanese Coast, taken from the
Mediterranean across Beirut towards the north depicts a fact unique to
Lebanon: the possibility to snow ski and water ski in the same day, during
spring time; a fact that should dispel the misinformation about Lebanon
being a desert country.
Another picture chosen for
our sub-pages is of the biblical Cedar of Lebanon - cherished by the
Lebanese as a symbol of national pride and cultural heritage – depicts the
association of the country and the name of Lebanon with ancient history
and civilisation.
Nowadays,
Lebanon is a modern country. We hope that in the following pages we shall
be able to give a clear picture of the country and its people.
On a
personal note and for someone who has served before in Canberra (as my
first overseas diplomatic posting), it was a “dream come true” to be back
and revel again at the beauty and the quality of life that the garden city
of Canberra offers, with enough peace and quiet to urge for the
exploration of the other equally magnificent Australian State Capital
Cities and other parts of the country. In such visits and meetings with
officials and members of the Australian-Lebanese Community, it became
apparent that a need existed for a Lebanese Embassy website to handle not
only the kind of information on the services that an Embassy and its
Consulates-General and Honorary Consulate could provide but also about the
Australian-Lebanese Community, inter-community affairs, Lebanon, and the
cordial relations between Lebanon and Australia. My admiration for the
Australian people and their predilection for the “fair go” and compassion
has only been reinforced after all these years.
As a
first phase, and inspired by the principles of “good governance” and
“transparency”, we have strived to elaborate as much as we could on the
Consular Formalities and the steps to be taken before their final
completion. We hope that in the next phases that will be built gradually,
we will be able to satisfy the curiosity of the most demanding browsers in
the near future.
It will
take us time to build a site that stands up to our and your satisfaction.
Your patience and your feedback will be welcomed and appreciated.
