General Guidelines:
* Kindly refer to the
Area of Jurisdiction.
* Signatory(s) are required to be present
in person (see A below). Nevertheless it is possible for the Embassy
to process their
Power of Attorney
by mail (see B below).
* Powers of Attorney should show: full
identity of the signatory(ies), his/her place and date of birth,
his/her Civil Acts Register No. & place in
Lebanon and his/her complete present address in Australia/New Zealand
as well as the complete name of the attorney/proxy(s).
* The General Power of Attorney allows the
attorney/proxy(s), to act on behalf of the signatory on any matter in
all circumstances. Signatories should be fully aware of the powers
they are delegating to their attorney/proxy(s).
* The Special Power of Attorney allows the
attorney/proxy(s) to act on behalf of the signatory on the specified
matter and in the designated circumstances.
* In special cases (chronic illnes,
disability …) it is possible for the Consular Officer to draw the
Power of Attorney at the signatory’s residence. Please call for the
related conditions.
* The fees are subject to change without
notice. Receipts are issued when no Consular Stamps equivalent to the
amount of the fees in Lebanese Pounds, are affixed.
A. In case the Power
of Attorney is to be prepared at the Embassy, please call the Embassy
and proceed with the following:

Arrange for an appointment.
*
Provide full identity (by fax or mail).
* State all details about the object of
the Power of Attorney and the attorney/proxy(s). Once the Power of
Attorney is prepared, the signatory(s) should come at the designated
time in person and provide:
a
/ The original documents required (plus a photostat copy of each) and
sign in the presence of the Consular Officer.
b
/ Cash (NOT by mail), Money Order or a Bank Cheque payable to the
“Embassy of Lebanon” for the appropriate fee.
B. In case the Power of Attorney is to be sent by mail,
please proceed with the following steps:

- The text of the Power of Attorney is in Arabic (the Embassy would
provide pre-prepared texts in some cases):
a/ It should be signed by the signatory(s) and 2 witnesses in front of
a Notary Public, (The Notary Public cannot act as a witness) who will
attest the identity of each.
b/ This original document then should be legalized by the State Office
of the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and forwarded (plus a
photostat copy) to the Embassy along with:
- Copies of I.D.s of signatory(s) and witnesses.
- A Money Order or a Bank Cheque payable to the “Embassy of Lebanon”
for the appropriate fee.
- A self-addressed, stamped (or Priority Prepaid) return envelope.
c/ The Power of Attorney is to be sent (by the signatory(s)) to his
now legal representative(s)/attorney/proxy(s), who will have to
present it at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants in Beirut
for legalization before it can be accepted by the Legal Authorities.
2 - The text of the Power of Attorney is
in English, drawn by a local Notary Public:
The document should be legalized by the
State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and
forwarded (plus a photostat copy) to the Embassy along with:
a/ A Money Order or a Bank Cheque payable to the “Embassy of
Lebanon” for the appropriate fee.
b/ A self-addressed, stamped (or Priority Prepaid) return envelope.
c/ The Power of Attorney is to be sent (by the signatory) to his now
legal representative(s)/attorney/proxy(s), who will have to present it
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants in Beirut for
legalization before it can be accepted by the Legal Authorities.
C. Revoking a Power of Attorney:
1 – Provide a copy of the Power of
Attorney.
2
– Draw a request similar to a Power of Attorney (details of
signatory(s) as stated in the “General Guidelines” above) mentioning
the No. & date of the Power of Attorney to be revoked, where and by
whom it was drawn.
D. Fees:
1. General Power of
Attorney: A$78.50 per signatory.
2. Special Power of Attorney: A$ 39.50 per
signatory.
3.
Revoking a Power of Attorney: A$
47.00 per signatory.
Note: In case the Power of Attorney mentions an amount of money, an
additional fee proportional to the amount (1o/oo) will be due. This
rule does not apply for revoking a Power of Attorney.
